London should not stop good jobs, housing or investment elsewhere simply to protect downtown on paper. Downtown recovery has to be built by fixing the basics and making the core a place people choose to invest in.
My Plan · Where I Stand
Growth Everywhere, Not Growth Stopped Everywhere
Good growth elsewhere is not the enemy of downtown. A stronger downtown has to be earned.
The answer
Here’s the issue. Here’s my answer. Here’s what I’d do.
I am not against downtown. I live there. But investment cannot be ordered back into the core. Fix public safety, cleanliness, access and the everyday experience first. Then make the case for downtown with results, not restrictions elsewhere.
I would track downtown commitments on a public timeline and judge growth elsewhere on the actual planning file, not on whether blocking it might protect downtown. Earn investment back. Do not try to mandate it.
